GB1VE – Fort Purbrook

Fort Purbrook Amateur Radio Club is activating GB1VE over this weekend, ending today, the 10th of May. Activity will be carried out the homes of from six members. Two stations will be on HF voice, always on different bands, another on HF CW, one on HF data modes, one on 6m or 2m or 70cm and, finally, one on 4m and Oscar-100. Shannon Basin Radio Nets

The Shannon Basin Radio Club is now having a net on Top Band every Monday evening at 20:00 Local on 1.916. The 80 meters net has changed frequency to be on Wednesday evenings on 3.720 plus or minus qrm at 20:00 and the 2 meter net is on Thursday evenings at 20:00 local. Ireland Bank Holiday Monday Contest

An independent 2m contest is being held on the Bank holiday Monday on May 4th to promote 2m usage during the COVID-19 lockdown. From 2pm to 3pm local time there will be an FM contest where operators should exchange signal reports, serials and 4 character Grid Squares. New 2M Transatlantic Record

A new transatlantic record on 144MHz has been reported which now brings the top distance to nearly 4,760 kilometers (2,951 miles). John Desmond, EI7GL in a recent post said “The incredible tropo conditions between Cape Verde Islands and the Caribbean continue to amaze with transatlantic contacts on 144 MHz and 432 MHz being made”.
